The Park University softball program will host Veterans and First Responders Day at the Park Softball Complex on March 21st for a doubleheader at 1pm against Mount Mercy University.
The Pirates want to honor those who serve both in the United States military and emergency response services. With gratitude for their heroic service, Park and Warriors' Ascent are teaming up to provide continued support for these individuals and families.
Warriors' Ascent is a Kansas City–based nonprofit committed to ending veteran and first responder suicide through a transformative, five-day, trauma-informed program. Grounded in holistic healing, the program equips participants with practical tools to process trauma, reclaim purpose, and build a foundation for a fulfilling life—empowering them to thrive and pass that strength on to future generations.Â
We will be honored to have Dustin Johns, an alumni of Warriors' Ascent, throw out a ceremonial first pitch and a National Anthem sung by the daughter of Sherry Payne, another Warriors' Ascent alumni. During the games donations will be collected to help generate a meaningful local impact. Additionally, Park's ROTC will present the flag as the color guard during the National Anthem, Off the Hook BBQ food truck will be on-site, a variety of messages will be shared during the games to recognize veterans, active military and first responders to raise awareness of Warriors' Ascent's resources and their program.Â
