The Pirates Start Off Home Opener Well With Sweep Over Doane

The Park University softball program was at the Park Softball Complex for the first time in 2026 and got off to a great start with a sweep over Doane University. The Pirates battled through adversity and a long delay in game two for the sweep, 5-4 and 6-0.

Park got an RBI single from Hanna Vaught to begin the game in the bottom of the 1st. From there Vaught pitched a solid four shutout innings until the Tigers got the lead in the 5th with a four hit, two error inning that led to four runs.

It wouldn't be long though before a Chloe Gilbert blast to left center field to immediately tie it back up in the bottom half of the inning, 4-4.

Vaught pitched a scoreless 6th and then was taken out in the 7th with 6.2 innings pitched and no earned runs to her credit. Brielle Dee did her job with 1.1 innings itched and did not allow a hit or a walk.

Anna Shrum did the rest in the bottom of the 8th with a RBI single to right field for the walk-off win, 5-4.

In game two, the senior from Kansas City, Missouri Myel White got the start in the circle and pitched a complete game shutout with three strikeouts.

The offense had her back from the start, as Caroline Ray got an RBI single in the 2nd. Faith Tessman then drove in a pair of runs with a single down the left field line for a 3-0 lead.

Julie Jones, Gilbert, and Vaught also drove in runs with RBI singles, as Park methodically tallied runs for a 6-0 win.
