Park Goes 2-1 at Midwest College Classic

The Park University softball program was in Shawnee, Kan. at Mid-America Sports Complex for the Midwest College Classic hosted by Top Gun Events. The Pirates went 2-1, falling to Bellevue University on day one and winning two in a row against Hastings College and Briar Cliff University.

Emma Reed led Park with six hits, batting .667. Hanna Vaught, Chloe Gilbert, and Faith Tessman were up next; each with five hits.

Tessman also had five walks in the three games, which helped her lead the team in on-base percentage at .833, while also hitting two bombs.

Vaught in the circle led Park with four strikeouts through 5.1 innings pitched against Hastings.

Game 1 vs Bellevue | L, 2-10

Park was able to rally down two runs to the Bruins in the second inning. Park benefited from a Bellevue error to score a run and then Gracie Ramsey came through with a sacrifice fly to tie it, 2-2.

Bellevue's seven run inning on seven hits was the tipping point in the fourth, and the Bruins went on to win 10-2.

Game 2 vs Hastings | W, 10-3

This time the Pirates did the early damage against the Broncos with a solo home run for Tessman in the top of the first. This was followed up by a two-run shot by Hanna Vaught for the 3-0 lead.

The third inning was an additional pair of runs off RBI singles from Gilbert and Reed.

After a run by Hastings in the fourth, Vaught helped her own cause by knocking in her third RBI of the game in the sixth.

Hastings got a couple more runs on the board, but the Pirates hit the ball extremely well with another RBI single by Tessman and RBI double by Gilbert for the 10-3 win.

Game 3 vs Briar Cliff | W, 12-3

The matchup with Briar Cliff only went five innings, as the Pirates continued to show what the bats could do. Three runs would come in to score for Park in the first, coming off of singles by Vaught and Reed.

Despite Briar Cliff chipping away in the second inning, the Pirates scored nine runs over the third through fifth innings for the 12-3 win.

Another game with two home runs for the Pirates, featured Reed and Tessman. With 14 hits for the game, while the Chargers had seven hits and left four on base. Park's Brielle Dee got the win, not allowing a walk, contrasting with the six walks from the Briar Cliff staff.
