Competitive Cheer Makes Some Noise in Breckon Sports Center, Hosting Their First Competition

2/18/2026 4:11:00 PM

The Park University competitive cheer team hosted its first meet inside Breckon Sports Center, the Park Invitational. The Pirates were among seven scoring teams in a young 2026 season.

The Pirates had competed once prior with Friends University last year at NCA Nationals in the Intermediate Small Coed NAIA Division, where the Falcons placed 2nd and Park 3rd with less than a point separating them. This year with a new pool of competitors from the Heart of America Athletic Conference and the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Pirates got to see where they stand among the rest.

The Pirates excelled in their tumbling score and overall master score with less than eight points off the maximum score. Park was marked down for their building master score though, which includes points for stunts, pyramids, and tosses. Following six points of deductions, the Pirates then arrived at their 66.87 total score for the competition. Missouri Valley won the event and was the only school to eclipse 80 points. The Vikings are known to be at the top of the charts in Cheer within the Heart and they have won eight out of the last nine Heart Championships.
