The Park University indoor track & field program was in Ames, Iowa on Friday for the ISU Holiday Open and came away with another NAIA National Championship qualifier in the 1,000m with
Cody Hammond.
Last week Hammond earned the school record in the mile and this week followed that up with a 2:27.61 for 5th place in the 1,000m. He hit the NAIA "B" standard and the freshman has sealed his second national championship appearance, the previous time this fall with the men's cross country team.
As a team, the Pirates had 12 personal records on Friday. Hammond also earned his personal record in the 800m event. He led the Pirates in this event as well with a 2:00.24 for 10th place.Â
Hammond's teammates,
Palmer O'Connor,
Alexander Caines, and
Caden Peters each put up impressive numbers in the 1,000m and these four Pirates own the fastest 1,000m times in the NAIA currently. O'Connor secured a 2:27.67, Caines a 2:28.38, and Peters a 2:28.47. Besides Hammond, all of these student-athletes were just split seconds off of NAA qualifying standards.
Rosjai Curtis is already a national qualifier in both long jump and triple jump, but once again hit NAIA "A" standards in both events again. With a 5.77m in the long jump, she took 1st place and her 12.13m mark in the triple jump was good for 2nd. This also stands true in the NAIA rankings. Curtis is the top rated long jumper and 2nd in the triple jump.
On the men's side,
Ahmad Evans took 1st in the triple jump and 2nd in the long jump in Ames. His 1st place mark was 13.51m, while his long jump measured 6.95m.Â
Park will continue their season in 2026 with the NAIA/JUCO Challenge on January 24 in Pittsburg, Kan. hosted by Pittsburg State University. See the full results at the link or in the table below.
