The Park University indoor track & field program had some excellent marks at the 2024 Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday in Maryville, Mo.
Overall the men's team placed 7
th out of 12 teams with eight personal records claimed and three qualifying marks to the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships. The women's team had some great performances too with another eight personal records, but finished 12
th of 12 teams.
To add to the excitement, the Pirates have 10 all-conference awards to show for their efforts, nine for the men's team and one for the women's program.
The top three finishers in each event are considered 2024 Heart Indoor Track & Field All-Conference athletes. 1st Place = First Team All-Conference, 2nd Place = Second Team All-Conference, 3rd Place = Third Team All-Conference, and fourth, fifth and sixth place finishers in each event will be considered 2024 Heart Indoor Track & Field Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Beginning with Park's 600m Heart Champion,
Alexander Caines. Caines ran his best 600m of his career with a time of 1:21.34, securing Heart First Team All-Conference and a qualifying time to nationals.
He earned third team all-conference as well with the 800m event in a time of 1:55.92.
Impressively, the men's 4x400 relay team took home a third team all-conference award and broke a Park indoor track & field record with a time of 3:18.65. The team was comprised of
Amael Maunay,
Shemar Caines,
Ahmad Evans, and
Chase Housh. This group has also qualified for nationals with their record setting day.
Evans will be in Brookings, S.D. for the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in multiple events as a second team all-conference finisher in the triple jump. His jump of 14.26m is his personal record and in his first time at nationals, he will compete in two events.
The men's team in the 4x800m relay and the distance medley solidified themselves as third team all-conference in a time of 10:36.57.
On the women's side, There were three personal records in the 60m event, including
Mya Charles' 7.91,
Hannah Mand's 7.97, and
Hope Klamm's 8.43. Charles took 7
th, followed by Mand and Hope in 9
th and 16
th.
Shanai Sweeting was excellent in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.26 for an all-conference honorable mention award in 5
th.
Destiny Pearson had two personal records in her first Heart championship meet, including a 1:43.09 in the 600m and a 2:29.51 in the 800m.
