Another Round of Solid Performances from the Pirates at the Coach Richard Alsup Open

1/21/2025 12:18:00 PM

The Park University indoor track & field program ventured back to Maryville, Mo. on Saturday for the Coach Richard Alsup Open, held at Northwest Missouri State University.

The talk of the meet has to be Rosjai Curtis who earned her third consecutive 1st place finish in triple jump and her second 1st place finish in long jump on the season. This time she earned an 11.47m mark in the triple jump and a 5.81m distance in the long jump.

Curtis so far in 2024-25 has the furthest long jump mark in the NAIA at 5.85m. The next best is a jumper from University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). She is third in triple jump at 11.94m, a mark also earned at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic.

Ahmad Evans has continued performing well and has not gotten under 2nd place in the long jump in three meets. This time around he hit a distance of 6.52m.

The men's 4x400m relay team was nearly 3 seconds away from an NAIA qualifying mark, as four Pirates of Chase Housh, Shemar Caines, Palmer O'Connor, and Alexander Caines crossed for 2nd place in a time of 3:21.70.

Only two seconds away from an NAIA qualifying time was Alexander in the 1,000m event with a time of 2:30.89 for 7th place.

Shemar showed off the fast time of 1:12.26 in the 600y event for 3rd place as well.

Housh was on Park's 2024 NAIA qualifying 4x400m relay team and he is showing progress in the 400m event with a 7th place finish with a 50.31.

It was a great showing for Park sprinters as Keano Ferguson, Mya Charles, and Shelby Birmingham qualified in the 60m event. Ferguson ran a 7.03 for 4th place in prelims and then finished 7th in the final on a time of 7.10.

Charles and Birmingham were neck-and-neck in both prelims and the final, improving to 5th and 6th place in times of 7.79 and 7.81, respectively. Birmingham would make some noise again with 4th place in the 200m race at 25.67.

Also reaching the final in the 60m hurdles was Hope Klamm and Shanai Sweeting. In the final Klamm took 5th on a 9.33 and Sweeting was just behind in 7th with a 9.48.

Park takes on the competition this Saturday, January 25 in Pittsburg, Kan. for the NAIA JC Challenge.
