The Park University outdoor track & field program took on the Heart of America Athletic Conference competition at the Heart Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3 in Fayette, Mo. The Pirates were among the top in the meet on both sides, as the men's team earned 3
rd and the women's team placed 4
th.
There are many top performances to mention, including 28 Heart All-Conference awards earned, 7 NAIA "A/B" standard marks and one school record.

Alexander Caines had an excellent meet, winning three all-conference awards, including two with the 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams. None was bigger though than being the Heart Champion in the 800m. His time of 1:51.92 is a personal best, it hit the NAIA "B" standard, and it's the second fastest 800m time in school history in outdoor.
Ethan came in at 6
th place for an honorable mention award in the 800m as well with a time of 1:54.27. Willmann, Caines, Ian Walsh, and
Tom Kuehnel also took 2
nd in the 4x800m relay for a 2
nd Team Heart All-Conference award with a time of 7:43.40, meeting the NAIA "B" standard.
Willmann earned personal records in the 800m and 1,500m events at the conference championships, earning 3
rd Team Heart All-Conference in the 1,500m in a time of 3:59.76.
Palmer O'Connor, in his freshman season at Park, competed at a high-level with a Heart title in the 1,500m with a time of 3:57.85. He was also involved in a 3
rd Team Heart All-Conference performance with the 4x400m relay team with Caines,
Ahmad Evans, and
Chase Housh. The group posted a time of 3:17.73.
O'Connor moves into the No. 7 spot in Park's outdoor records in the 800m.
In the 5,000m event, three Pirates were Heart All-Conference Honorable Mention in 4
th-6
th place.
Lukas Mehl ran a time of 15:10.62, Kuehnel was clocked at 15:17.72, and
Cayden Walker came around at 15:18.15.
More excitement came from Mehl and Walker, as the conference champion and runner-up in the 10,000m. Mehl won the title with a time of 31:52.23 and is now a two-time outdoor Heart champ in the 10,000m and 5,000m from last year. Walker ran a personal best of 32:17.34 for 2
nd.
Another freshman scored at the meet with an all-conference Honorable Mention award with a 6
th place finish in the 3,000m Steeplechase in a time of 10:35.79.
Keano Ferguson took 15
th in the 200m preliminary and with a time of 22.06, he moves to No. 8 all-time at Park in the outdoor 200m dash.
In the field events, Evans took 2
nd in the triple jump at 14.39m for a 2
nd Team Heart All-Conference award, while
Jaylin Harris in the discus took 5
th with a mark of 43.16m for an honorable mention accolade.
On the women's side, the Pirates had a historical performance from the women's 4x100m relay team, who clinched Park's outdoor all-time record with a time of 46.93 for the NAIA's "B" standard.

Rosjai Curtis, and
Alexandria Sherman all were a part of the record for a 2
nd Team Heart All-Conference award as well.
Curtis and Charles had excellent meets with seven Heart All-Conference awards between the two. They both qualified for nationals in the 100m dash with "B" standard marks. Curtis took 2
nd place with an 11.83 and Charles was a split second off at 11.84 for 3rd.
Curtis coming off of two indoor conference titles, tacked on an outdoor triple jump conference title as well with a mark of 12.12m.
In the 200m, Charles captured a NAIA qualifying time of 24.52 for a 2
nd Team Heart All-Conference performance. Her time also is tied for third all-time in the outdoor 200m school record list.
Lilly Comarcho wrapped up her first Heart Outdoor Championship with an all-conference honorable mention performance in the 800m for 5
th place with a time of 2:21.32. She also was a leg on the 4x400m and 4x800m Heart All-Conference relay teams.
In the 4x400m,
Jonnicia Williams, Comarcho,
Hannah Mand, and
Adison Hayden took 4
th place in a time of 4:05.38. The 4x800m relay team looked similar, but
Lily Brecheisen replaced Hayden, and the team took 3
rd place with a time of 9:33.50.
Shanai Sweeting placed 5
th in the 100m Hurdles and gained a new personal record as well as a all-conference honorable mention award with a time of 14.33. She is now in the No. 3 spot in Park's all-time records in the event.
Hope Klamm took 7
th in the 400m Hurdles at the conference meet, earning a new personal record with a time of 1:07.34. She will move to No. 7 in Park's records, as her twin sister jumps her in the school records to No. 4 after a 1:04.44 at the Heart Championships.
Faith Klamm with her new best time earned a Heart 3
rd Team All-Conference award.
It was also a personal record for
Dawn McIntyre in the long jump, placing 5
th for a honorable mention accolade with a jump of 5.51m.
A small group will compete at the Loper Twilight in Kearney, Neb. tomorrow, May 10 at University of Nebraska at Kearney.
May 21-23 will be the time for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
