The Park University outdoor track & field program was split between Des Moines and Indianola, Iowa on Thursday and Friday this past week, competing at the Drake Relays and the Kip Janvrin Invitational.
A big storyline is that the Park men's 4x800m relay team has qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, hitting the NAIA's A standard at 7:37.29.
Alexander Caines,
Ethan Willmann,
Chase Housh, and
Palmer O'Connor now have the fastest 4x800m time at Park since at least 2006. The 4x800m team most recently qualified during the indoor season to nationals with three of the four members being the same and Housh being the new leg to the group.
While the men's 4x800m relay team took 8
th, the women's 4x100m relay team took 4
th place and again made it under the NAIA B standard at 47.24.
Hannah Mand,
Mya Charles,
Rosjai Curtis, and
Alexandria Sherman already have qualified for nationals, but their time at the Drake Relays is the 2
nd fastest time in Park history.
The 4-time 2025 Heart Field Athlete of the Week, Curtis, besides her efforts in the 4x100m relay, also impressed with 3
rd in the Triple Jump and 6
th in the Long Jump. Her long jump mark was 5.72m, while her triple jump measured 12.17m.
The Pirates men's SMR 1600m placed 3
rd at the Drake Relays with a time of 3:27.72, while the DMR 4000m took 13
th in a time of 10:15.69.
A second group simultaneously was at the Kip Janvrin Invitational and
Shanai Sweeting shined as the winner in the women's 100m hurdles in a time of 14.61. Her teammate
Hope Klamm was right behind in 5
th place with a time of 14.96.
Her twin sister
Faith Klamm came around in the 400m Hurdles in 6
th with a time of 1:06.80.
Jaylin Harris represented well in the discus with a 42.15m throw for 10
th place.
On the women's side and just outside of the top 10 was
Dawn McIntyre taking 11
th in the women's long jump at 4.99m.
The Pirates now will gear up for the 2025 Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships May 2-3 in Fayette, Mo. at Central Methodist University.
