Park Takes Off at Spire Open, Curtis Qualifies for NAIA National Championships in Long Jump and Triple Jump

3/26/2025 11:19:00 AM

The Park University outdoor track & field program was in Leavenworth, Kan. on Friday and Saturday, March 21-22 at the Spire Open and Spire Distance Carnival.

Park placed 3rd as a team with 150 points.

Park's two-time NAIA All-American from the indoor season, Rosjai Curtis, continued where she left off and in her opening outdoor meet, took 1st place in the long jump and triple jump, and qualified for NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the process. Curtis moves into No. 2 in Park's all-time records with a 5.90m long jump and an 11.91m triple jump. She hit the NAIA's "A" standard in long jump and the "B" standard in long jump, and was recognized as the Heart of America Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week.

Her teammate Lilly Comarcho was four spots behind Curtis in 5th place in the triple jump with a mark of 10.23m.

Park boasted three other 1st place finishers, including Hope Klamm in the 100m Hurdles, Erik Harken in the 110m Hurdles, and Naliyah Landrum in Hammer Throw.

Hope set a new personal best with a time of 14.73 and put herself at No. 5 in Park's all-time outdoor records.

Shanai Sweeting had a good run in her own right and was 3rd in the 100m hurdles with a 15.08.

Harken had impressive performances in Heart Indoor Conference Championships and put together a great meet with a 15.38 in the 110m Hurdles and ran at a high-level again in the 400m Hurdles for 3rd place, crossing at 1:00.59.

Landrum is the current record holder in the hammer throw at Park with a distance of 162'1" last season at the Kip Janvrin Open and had a 148'11" this time around at the Spire Open, or 45.39m. Kennise Anderson is 3rd on the all-time list, and like Landrum was under her best mark, but still had a good showing with a 2nd place finish with a 41.89m toss.

While on the subject of throwers, Jaylin Harris moves up to No. 3 all-time at Park in the discus after a 45.53m (149'04") mark for 2nd place.

Ahmad Evans took 2nd in the triple jump with a mark of 13.72m and was just outside of the top 5 in the high jump with a 1.90m mark for 6th.

Both of Park's 4x100m men's and women's relay teams took 3rd place this weekend. Evans, Shemar Caines, Nick Eytcheson, and Keano Ferguson ran a 43.58; while Sweeting, the Klamm sisters, and Dawn McIntyre got clocked at 50.37.

Lukas Mehl was Heart All-Conference Honorable Mention in the 5,000m event last year at Heart Outdoor Nationals with a 15:42.38, but he's cut a ton of time down and ran a 14:55.00 at the Spire Open for 8th place. He's also coming off of a Heart Indoor Conference 5,000m title with a 14:54.05.
