Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 2 Central Methodist Brings Down Park, 82-39

Park University's women's basketball program was in a tangle with No. 2 Central Methodist University on Wednesday night. In the end, the NAIA juggernaut moved past the Pirates, 82-39.

Park is now 5-21 on the season and drop to 3-18 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Central Methodist remains the only undefeated team in the NAIA at 27-0 and 21-0.

The Pirates and Eagles were even at 2-2, but an avalanche of points came in for Central Methodist, scoring 23 unanswered points during the quarter.

This is the toughest game on the calendar for the Pirates and they were unable to recover after the first quarter setback.

The Eagles continued to add to their lead with another 25-spot in the second quarter. The Pirates were able to outscore the Eagles in the fourth quarter at 17-14 though. When the dust cleared, the Eagles cruised to an 82-39 victory.

Angel Wiggins and Donetria McGee were the top scorers for the Pirates, earning 10 and nine points on the game. Wiggins had a five-of-16 night from the field in her fourth double-figure scoring performance this season.

McGee was a leading rebounder along with Makayla Artis with nine boards. McGee and Artis both were effective off the offensive glass with six and four offensive rebounds, respectively.

Kiersten Robbins and Trinity Goggles were next in line in scoring for the Pirates. Robbins had six consecutive points in the fourth quarter, while Goggles had Park's only three-point basket.

There were eight more turnovers committed by Park than the Eagles tonight and Central Methodist made the most of their opportunities with 23 points off turnovers.

Despite only shooting four-of-21 from beyond the arc, the Eagles scored 50 points in the paint tonight, including 20 fastbreak baskets. Park had managed to record 28 and eight of the same.

This concludes Park's home portion of their 2022-23 season and the Pirates travel to Des Moines, Iowa for their final game against Grand View University. Watch the live-action here.
