The Park University softball program was in Kansas City, Kan. on Saturday and Sunday, working through wet conditions on Saturday night and continuing action on a more sunny Sunday. The Pirates went 2-1 with two emphatic wins against York and then fell to Avila in a defensive game, 3-0.
Park finished the invitational with a 4-3 on the year.Â
Game 1 vs York | W, 15-2 | Box Score
Park scored in each inning in game one with four unearned runs coming around to score. York answered back with two runs in the top of the second inning, but then the Pirates unloaded with five runs in the second. The bottom of the second featured four RBI singles by the Pirates, including
Chloe Gilbert,
Bella Rollo,
Hanna Vaught, and
Jordan Crooks.
Vaught took it from there with a five inning performance in the circle, striking out seven Panthers and did not give up a run after the second inning.
The Pirates took advantage of wild pitches and some errors in the third inning and then tacked on two more runs in the fourth on a double by
Faith Tessman and a single by Gilbert.
The Panthers had five errors in the game, while the Pirates had none.Â
Game 2 vs Avila | L, 0-3 | Box Score
Rori Hornung got the start in the Avila game and went a solid four innings with only one earned run.Â
Avila did their damage in the third inning with two runs on two singles.Â
The Pirates had runners reach second base twice, once in the fifth on a
Gracie Ramsey double and then again in the seventh on a passed ball. The Pirates would have six runners left on base for the game though.
Brielle Dee went two innings for the Pirates and worked around two walks to limit the Eagles to a run. In the end, the Pirates would fall, 3-0.
Game 3 vs York | W, 11-2 | Box Score
York would have to face Park one more time on the weekend, and the Panthers started the game with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. An 11-run bottom of the second though would put this game away early though.
The game was officially broken open by a
Bella Rollo grand slam to make it 9-1.
Lily Hans and
Anna Shrum would then tack on two more runs with RBI singles, 11-2.
Hornung went three strong innings on the mound and in a 5 inning game will receive her first win of the season. She had no walks and struck out two batters. Vaught closed out the game with two innings pitched. Both runs scored were unearned.
The Pirates are in Branson, Mo. for their next set of game. Two games against Sterling and York on Friday and another pair with Viterbo and Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday.
