The Park University men's soccer program was in action on Saturday against (RV) Benedictine College on Julian Field and the Pirates got a huge boost in the second half to defeat the Ravens, 3-1.
Park moves to 5-1-2 on the year with a 2-1-1 Heart record, while the Ravens now stand at 5-3-1 on the regular season with a 2-3-0 conference record.
It was late in the first half before any scoring began. Both teams were relatively even on first half shots, five for the Ravens and four for the Pirates. The Ravens had three shots on goal, including an unassisted goal in the 41st minute before halftime to go up 1-0.Â
Park had one shot on goal in the first half, but in the second half they found their stride. Immediately out of the halftime break, the Pirates'
Luka Andonovski found Jacksyn McIntyre for the score to tie the game at the 51 minute mark.
Andonovski was involved on the scoring again in the 62nd minute, but this time he found the net off of the assist from
Pedro Beserra to lead the Ravens, 2-1.Â
Park had six shots in the second half and held Benedictine to only four. Pirate goalkeeper
Felipe Ramos and the backline buckled down for a shutout in the second half and in four games, have only allowed two goals to Heart opponents. Up to this point, the Pirates have only allowed one multi-goal game, which was in the tie against Morningside, 2-2.
To add some insurance, McIntyre tallied his second goal of the contest in the 79th minute to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead and eventually the win.
Benedictine had five corner kick opportunities in the game to Park's three. And the Ravens only managed two saves of the five Park shots on goal.Â
