Senior Day Sweep Over Graceland Makes 30 Wins in the Softball Program’s 30th Season

Park University's softball program in its 30th season of existence took a big step forward in 2025 with 30 wins to wrap up the regular season. On Saturday, the Pirates celebrated Senior Day with a pair of wins over Graceland University at the Park Softball Complex, 10-0 and 2-0.

Park had the privilege of celebrating five seniors, three of which were at Park all four years. The five include, Caroline Riffer, Lauren Fiene, Shelby Sanders, Dani-Quinn Klein McAlister, and Halle Magee.

30-12 is the fifth 30 win season in Park softball history and the first of Head Coach Lindsey Derry's career. The last time Park got to 30 wins was in 2016 when Coach Derry was an assistant coach to current Park assistant coach Steve Tingler.

Park secured the No. 3 seed in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament, the program's first appearance since joining the Heart and last qualified for the American Midwest Conference Tournament in 2018, making a semifinal appearance.

Park's conference record soars to 18-6 on the year, while the Yellowjackets were only 5-17 in the Heart, missing the conference tournament, and 12-34 on the season.

W, 10-0 | Box Score
It was an offensive tumult for Park to begin the game with four runs in each of the first two innings. Caroline Riffer singled to begin the game and stole second as she so often does. In fact, the senior has 32 stolen bases this season and 68 for her two-year career. Gracie Ramsey doubled down the left field line to make it third and second, no outs. At which point, Halle Magee cleared the bases with a single to centerfield. A few batters later, another senior, McAlister, belted a homer to centerfield to make it 4-0.

Park came all the way back to the top of the lineup in the second inning and another two RBIs were driven in by Magee on a double to deep center. It was the same combo as the bottom of the first, as McAlister then laced a single to centerfield for two more runs, making it 8-0.

Magee and McAlister came into the game tied in career games played and career at-bats. Both have moved into No. 3 all-time at Park in those categories with 173 games played and 526 at-bats each after Saturday.

Fiene in the circle had more than enough run support and made it a special senior day with a no-hitter thrown in the complete game, shutout. She reaches 10 wins for the first time in her career and only one walk blemished a near perfect game.

A double by Chloe Gilbert in the bottom of the fourth, scored Magee for a 9-0 lead and then in the same inning a passed ball scored Gilbert for the 10-0 win in five innings.

W, 2-0 | Box Score
Again, Park scored in the first inning of game two, starting the game off with two infield singles on account of the wheels by Riffer and Ramsey. With a first and third situation, Park had two consecutive strikeouts, but a passed ball helped Park to a 1-0 lead, as Riffer scored her 38th run of the season.

Hanna Vaught had the start in game two in the circle and bumped up to a 13-3 record in her college softball season debut. With the shutout, the Pirates staff now has 15 shutout victories on the year, half of the team wins.

Vaught went the distance with six strikeouts and only two walks in the complete game, shutout.

There were less runs that came in during game two, but the Pirates got some insurance from the sophomore catcher, Ashton Arndt with a triple to score Caroline Ray, 2-0.

The Pirates will play the Heart Conference Tournament host, No. 6 seeded Mount Mercy. Park and the Mustangs play on Thursday, May 1 at 5pm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The tournament format is double-elimination with the championship scheduled for Sunday, May 4th. WATCH
