Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Peru State Controls the Game as Park Falls on the Road, 87-64

The Park University men's basketball program was on the road in Peru, Neb. on Tuesday against Peru State College. The Bobcats held the lead from start to finish in the 87-64 contest.

Park moves to 4-6 on the year with a 2-1 Heart of America Athletic Conference record, while the Bobcats are 2-2 in the Heart with a 6-5 overall record.

A 7--0 start for Peru State immediately Park responded with a 30 second timeout to slow things down. A second three-pointer of the evening mad it 10-2, while Burrows got Park back into the scoring column with a two-point jumper. Amaire Perkins had good defensive work early with two steals, including one that led to a Burrows dunk in transition to make it 10-6. Park's big men Otavio Armani and Mannie Odo got Park within two-points at the 14:36 mark, 12-10. An 8-2 scoring run put the Bobcats back in the driver's seat at the 11:59 mark. The Pirates were only able to come within five-points a couple more times in the half and both teams traded threes to close things down in the opening period. King hit his three-pointer with 26 seconds left to answer the Bobcats' make, but a layup under 10 seconds for Peru State made it a 10-point game, 40-30.

An and-one by Odo helped get the Pirates going in the second half and another three points by Burrows and Perkins got Park within five again, 45-40. A handful of baskets including two more three-pointers by the Bobcats put hem back in front by 14 points though with 14:15 on the clock. Another couple threes and a layup put Peru State up 66-46 with 9:43 left in the game. With Peru State shooting 50-percent from the field and a solid eight-of-20 from three in the second half, it made a comeback slim for the Pirates as this game ended, 87-64.

Park shot 39-percent from the field of the game to Peru State's 51-percent, but Park was only two-of-16 from deep while the Bobcats were 12-of-31.

Both sides were about even at the charity stripe, 12-of-18 for Park and 11-of-14 for the Bobcats.

Peru State had eight more turnovers in the game, while Park was right at 10 for the contest. With that, the Pirates doubled the points off turnovers with 14, but second chance points was slanted Peru State's way at 23 to 12.

King led Park with 16 points and was the only Pirate with made three-pointers and he had three steals defensively.

Odo had a double-double for the Pirates with 11 points on 10 rebounds. Burrows had the same number of points and got to the line with a five-of-eight performance.

Perkins and Armani both put in six-point games and had two steals each. Armani was second in rebounding with six boards, but Perkins played big with four offensive rebounds for the Pirates.

Bayley Crawford put in a good night as well with a four-of-six game from the field with eight points to lead the bench scoring.

Park is back in Breckon Sports Center on Wednesday at 7:30pm against MidAmerica Nazarene University. At halftime of both the women's and men's game, there will be a Teddy Bear Toss. Fans who bring a teddy bear will get into the game free and all donations will be given to the Southern Platte Fire District. WATCH
