The Park University men's soccer team had a strong performance against (RV) Central Methodist University on Saturday night in Fayette, Mo.
The Pirates got their third shutout win of the season and jump to 6-7-2 on the year with a 6-3-2 Heart of America Athletic Conference record, while the Eagles are now 8-4-5 with a 5-3-4 Heart record.
The Eagles immediately put themselves in a disadvantage when their starting goalkeeper and another starter both got red cards at the 17 and 18 minute marks.
Central Methodist played with nine players for the majority of this contest, which of course changed the whole dynamic of the game.
The Pirates were able to pierce through the shell of the Central Methodist defense, as the defender marched it up field and with everyone in front of him drilled the game's first goal at the 20 minute mark, 1-nil. The goal was from well beyond the 18-yard box and had enough power to make it to the back of the net even after a deflection.
The scored stayed at 1-nil through the first half, as Park put up 11 shots to the Eagles' three.
Felipe Ramos picked up two saves in the first half as well.
Park owned the corner kicks with seven for the game, which included four in the second half. The Eagles only had three corners for the game on the other side.
It would midway through the second half when the next goal was scored, as
Matias Aravena tacked on some insurance for Park in the 73rd minute, 2-nil.
Altogether the Pirates had 19 shots for the game compared to only four to the Eagles, who were forced to play a defensive game with only nine on the pitch.
The Pirates will be back in action on Tuesday evening at 7:30pm against William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
