The Pirates Get the Clean Sweep Over Peru State

The Park University women's volleyball program was on the road in Peru, Neb. on Tuesday night and the Pirates put together three solids sets for the sweep, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.

Park moves up to 14-6 on the year with a 10-3 Heart of America Athletic Conference record. This also makes four wins in a row for the Pirates, while the Bobcats move to 11-17 on the season with 4-11 Heart record.

Park swung a .190 hitting percentage, while holding Peru State to .066 for the match.

After getting to a four point lead, the Bobcats chipped away at the deficit and made it 10-9. The Pirates got more of a handle of things outscoring the Bobcats 9-5 in the next sequence to get a five-point lead. It was all Park the rest of the way and two attack errors ended the first set 25-17 for Park.

The Bobcats got off to a 7-3 start in set two, but a 9-2 run flipped the lead around to Park 12-9. It was smooth sailing for Park the rest of the way and two Park seniors, Daniela Gomez and Angelina Rodriguez, finished the set with kills, 25-19.

Midway through the third set, the Bobcats had some late life with a 4-0 run to take a 18-14 lead. The Pirates off of kills from Zetic and Dias, and block from Dias helped Park come within a point, 19-18. Peru State got back to a two-point lead, but the Pirates caught fire for the last seven points of the match, including two kills by Indi Zetic, 25-20.

Zetic led Park with a double-double on 15 kills and 12 digs, while Gomez was one kill shy of double-figure offensive numbers.

Jullia Alvarez led Park with 16 digs and Rodriguez was tied for second on the team with 12 digs.

Silvia Albani helped Park with 33 assists for the match and added six digs.

The Pirates are back in Breckon Sports Center on Friday, October 24 against Missouri Valley College at 7pm for International Day.
