The Park University women's soccer program defeated the Owls of William Woods University on Saturday, 6-nil.
The Pirates now climb to 7-3-3 on the season with a 5-2-3 Heart of America Athletic Conference record. William Woods, a former American Midwest Conference member along with Park, has had a hard entry into the Heart at 2-9-2 on the year and 1-7-2 in conference.
It was five minutes into the game when
Maddy Farris found the back of the net for her third goal on the season, assisted by
Sofia Morales.Â
Lizeth Suarez was next up for the Pirates in the goal column no more than 45 seconds later in the sixth minute on a pass from
Sophia Pope. Suarez was well behind the 18-yard box to give Park a 2-0 lead.Â
Emma Le extended the lead by two goals in the 13th and 19th minutes. Farris got an assist on the first goal and Pope earned her second assist of the afternoon.
Already with a 4-nil lead,
Megan Everhart struck in the 33rd minute off of a ball from
Patrycia Kozak.
At the halftime break, the Pirates led 5-nil and overwhelmed the Owls with 17 first half shots. William Woods had three in the first half and only managed seven for the game. Meanwhile, the Pirates stayed on the William Woods side in the second half with 12 shots for a total of 29 for the game.
William Woods had eight saves in the first half and another five in the second half against an aggressive Pirate group.Â
The score stayed at 5-nil until the 79th minute when Kozak made it a 6-nil game off of an assist from
Laura Suarez.
Delaney Duke in goal for Park, along with the backline, held strong with three saves in the match to secure the cleansheet.
Park had seven corner kicks for the game compared to three from their opponent.
The Pirates will be on the road on Saturday for a 5pm game against No. 14 Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo.
