Heartbreaker in the Closing Minutes Against No. 14 Central Methodist, Park Falls 3-2

The Park University women's soccer program was on the road in Fayette, Mo. on Saturday against No. 14 Central Methodist University and the Pirates were up to the task battling through a full 90 minutes, but the Eagles surpassed Park in the final minute for the 3-2 win.

Park moves to 7-4-3 on the year with a 5-3-3 Heart of America Athletic Conference record. The Eagles have shown why they are among the top in the country this season with a 13-1-2 overall record and undefeated in Heart play at 11-0-1.

With two games to go in the Heart regular season, the Pirates are in a favorable No. 5 position in the Heart trailing the No. 4 Benedictine College Ravens by five points.

In only the 11th minute, Central Methodist got on the board 1-0.

The senior from McPherson, Kan., Megan Everhart tied the game with her second goal of the season in the 36th minute, 1-1.

The score was a tie at the halftime break and the shots favored the Eagles by five, seven to two.

Credit Frankie Williams with five saves in the first half. She would continue to show up in the second with an additional five saves for a total of 10.

In the 56th minute, Central Methodist got back on top with a goal, only to be countered the very next minute. Rand Taleb found Patrycia Kozak for the equalizing goal and the Pirates were matching the Eagles goal for goal.

A turning point could have been in the 85th minute when Park's Leticia Quadros had her second yellow card resulting in a red for an ejection. The Pirates played with 10 players the remaining five minutes. The Eagles  were threatening late and with 45 seconds remaining a corner kick to the back post was headed in by Central Methodist for the 3-2 win.

It was only the third corner of the game, all three were for the Eagles.

Park had five shots for the game compared to 18 shots, 11 in the second half, by the Eagles.

The Pirates were close to at least picking up a point against the nationally ranked opponent, but will now look to William Penn University on Tuesday evening in Oskaloosa, Iowa at 5pm. WATCH
