The Park University women's volleyball program was in Canton, Mo. on Friday, delivering the sweep over the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19.
The Pirates got their third win in a row on Friday, moving to 13-6 and 9-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Wildcats now stand at 7-18 and 2-11 of the same.
The Pirates were hitting into the stratosphere the other night with a .417 to open the match and closing out at .393 overall. Meanwhile, the Pirates held Culver-Stockton to a .172 attack percentage.
Park quickly got out to a 7-2 lead in set one and then put their foot on the accelerator with a 3-0 run to go up 12-5. Back-to-back kills by
Indi Zetic boosted Park in that run. The Pirates stayed on the offensive and took set one 25-16.
It was an even better start in set two with a 8-1 run, which included two double-blocks by
Florencia Churin and Zetic. Culver-Stockton was down 19-10, but fought back in the end to come within four points of the Pirates at one point, 25-20.
A 4-1 run by Culver-Stockton in the third set gave them some life and they led 11-10, but the Pirates flipped the script with a 7-1 run to make it 17-12. In the end, a kill by
Daniela Gomez an a service ace from
Jullia Alvarez sealed the sweep, 25-19.
Park had eight blocks for the match, five more than their opponent and the Pirates had 13 more digs at 39 for the match as well.
Offensively, the Pirates were led by
Daniela Gomez with 14 kills, while
Indi Zetic, and
Angelina Rodriguez were the next leaders at nine and five.
Florencia Churin had an excellent defensive match with six blocks as well.
Silvia Albani had a respectable match at 39 assists.
