The Park University women's volleyball team defeated Benedictine College in four sets in Park's Cancer Awareness Match on Tuesday in Breckon Sports Center, 21-25, 25-13, 27-25, 25-17.
The Pirates move up to 11-6 and 7-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while Benedictine is now 11-9 and 7-4 in the Heart.Â
Park held the Ravens to a .185 hitting percentage, while the Pirates were at .247.Â
Benedictine came out strong and took the first set 25-21 and had their best hitting percentage of the evening at .333. The Pirates quickly rebounded and took set two 25-13.Â
The real excitement was in set three, where Park came all the way back from a 18-8 deficit to winning 27-25. A 3-0 run off a Raven service error, a
Jullia Alvarez ace, and a
Indi Zetic kill got Park going in the right direction, 19-12. Then a 4-0 run was capped off by a
Florencia Churin and
Daniela Gomez block to come within four points, 20-16. Benedictine got to 23-17 and the situation was dire for Park. A 5-0 run though off of kills by
Angelina Rodriguez and
Isadora Dias made it interesting at 23-22. Benedictine managed to get to set point, but Park went on a 5-1 run to secure the win. A huge block by Dias tied it at 24-24 to set up Gomez for the final kill of the set.
With an energized crowd and a lot of momentum on the Pirates' side, they completed the four set win over Benedictine with wins in three consecutive sets, 25-17.
Zetic had a spectacular night at 18 kills and 19 digs. Alvarez led the Pirates in digs with 25 and three service aces.Â
Rodriguez also had a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Gomez and Dias were in double-figures offensively at 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
Silvia Albani did a little of everything for Park with 51 assists, seven digs, two service aces, two kills, and a block. She was on for the Pirate Post-Game as well.
The Pirates play Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. on Friday, October 17 at 7pm.
