The Park University men's soccer program was traveled to Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday for an early evening contest with Grand View University. The Pirates came to play and captured the win, 1-nil.
Park moves to a 4-2-1 regular season record and earns its first three points in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Table, sitting at 1-2 in conference play. Grand View is still winless in Heart play at 0-2-1 and are below .500 on the regular season at 3-4-3.
The Pirates have tightened up defensively since their opening conference game with Clarke and have only allowed one goal in the last two conference games. The 1-nil win over the Vikings is the fourth shutout of the season, the other three coming against non-conference opponents.
Park spread their chances out evenly between both halves with six shots in both halves for a total of 12 shots in the game. Grand View was not as fortunate in the first half with only two shots registered, but came back strong in the second half with six shots for a total of eight in the game.
Scoreless through half one and only two shots on goal, the second half was much more eventful with seven saves between the two keepers.
Felipe Ramos Peralta earned three saves in the second half, while Grand View's goalie hung in for four saves in the second half.
With time ticking away, it all seemed likely that a draw would be the final result. Not so fast though, as
Joao Kawasaki found Jacksyn McIntyre for the game-winning goal in the 85
th minute. McIntyre in his first season at Park, leads the Pirates in goals with a count of four now and earned his second game winning goal so far this season.
Park has its Homecoming matchup on Saturday, September 28 at 2:30pm against Graceland University. Homecoming Court will be announced in between games.
