The Park University men's soccer program had its Homecoming game against Graceland University on Saturday, scoring three unanswered goals for the 3-1 win over the Yellowjackets.
The Pirates hang tough and move to 5-2-1 on the year with a 2-2 Heart of America Athletic Conference record and are currently 6
th in the conference table. Graceland, two points behind Park in the standings, is now 1-2-1 in conference and are 5-2-3 on the season.
Only 8 minutes into the game, the Yellowjackets had something to celebrate with a goal from Andrew Porter in the middle of the box, as two quick passes from Tyler Dailey and Stefano Mazzariol freed up Porter for the opening score.
For most of the first half the Yellowjackets maintained the lead and did not allow a shot on goal until the '37 minute mark. In the midfield,
Diego Quintana had the savvy to chip the ball past the backline of Graceland. A sprinting
Grant Barry was able to stay on sides with only the keeper to beat and on his only touch of the ball, he was able to deliver the ball through Alejandro Soto for the tying goal.
Soto would only have the one shot on goal go against him and he had to leave the game following the collision between him and Barry.
The Pirates looked energized following the score and outshot Graceland 10 to five in the first half, and only allowed four shots in the second half. Park finished with 17 shots and the Yellowjackets with nine.
Jacksyn McIntyre scored the eventual game-winning goal for Park in the 69
th minute with an assist coming from
Julian Campos. Park had seven shots on goal in the game with five coming in the second half, while the Yellowjackets only had three in the game.
McIntyre and Campos would link up again in with five minutes left to go. McIntyre had a defender on him on the far sideline, but with a heel kick behind him, he led Campos expertly down the left side of the box and from that distance and space, it was a shoe-in for Campos.
Felipe Ramos Peralta earned three saves on the day, compared to four by Dither Beltran of Graceland.
Park had five corner kicks on the day to only one first half corner for the Yellowjackets.
Park faces No. 22 Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. on Wednesday at 7:30pm.
