Game Recap: Softball |

Pirates Move to Three Wins in a Row with Sweep of Culver-Stockton

Park University's softball program was in Canton, Mo. on Saturday for a doubleheader with Culver-Stockton College, coming away from the road trip with two wins, 4-1 and 7-2.

The Pirates are now over .500 on the season with a 14-12 record and are now 4-6 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while the Wildcats fall to 10-24 and 1-9 in the Heart.

GAME 1 | W, 4-1 | Box Score

Halle Magee belted a ball to left field in the top of the first to get Park on the board, 2-0.

In the circle, Dakota Rau put an excellent game plan into place with a complete game on only three hits and zero earned runs. A fielding error by Park in the bottom of the fifth gave Culver-Stockton their only run.

The Wildcats had their own defensive mistakes and Park capitalized on an error in the top of the sixth to extend the lead, 3-1.

Finally, Magee tacked on another insurance run with a double in the seventh inning for the 4-1 victory.

The Pirates only had four hits, and three of the runs came on Magee's two extra base-hits.

GAME 2 | W, 7-2 | Box Score

There was more offense to go around in game two to the amount of 13 hits for seven runs.

Park would strike first in the top of the third on a Shelby Sanders single, but the Wildcats answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with a home run to tie, 1-1.

The Pirates kept the intensity up though and scored five runs in the next two innings. Caroline Ray helped manufacture some offense with a stolen base in the top of the fourth that allowed Chloe Gilbert to come in from third on the throw down to second. Ray then would come in on a ground out by Nia Muniz.

Kal Day was a big source of offense with a perfect four-for-four game two at the plate and gave Park a three-run boost with a home run to dead centerfield.

Before the game was out, Sanders arrived at three hits with a solo home run to make it 7-1.

Lauren Fiene did an awesome job in the circle with a complete game on eight strikeouts and allowed just one earned run.

The Pirates now play No. 3 Central Methodist University on Saturday, April 13 at 1pm and 3pm at the Park Softball Complex. WATCH
