Central Methodist Edges Park, 76-69

Park University's women's basketball program fell to Central Methodist University on Saturday in Breckon Sports Center, 76-69.

The Pirates move to 11-15 on the year and 8-14 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while the Eagles are climbing up the ladder at 13-13 and 10-12 in the Heart.

The Pirates and the Eagles had a close first quarter, but the Pirates held a 21-18 lead. A 6-0 run helped Park take a 27-18 lead. A 7-0 lead was the response by Central Methodist to come within two points at the 4:47 mark in the second quarter. The game took a big turn though with a 10-2 run capped off by an Iva Drobnjak three-pointer to help Park take a 41-35 halftime lead.

The Pirates led by as much as 11 at the 6:10 mark in the third quarter. A 10-2 run to end the quarter gave the Eagles the boost they needed to comeback within three points, 55-52. The Eagles earned their first lead of the second half at 9:05 left in the game, 56-55, and they would continue to build their lead to 60-55 with 8:33 left. Park got back within a couple points two different times before the clock ran out, but the Eagles took care of the ball to clinch a seven-point win, 76-69.

Central Methodist had the advantage with a 57.7-percent field-goal percentage, while Park shot 41.1-percent.

Three point makes were nearly even between both teams, five for the Eagles and three for the Pirates. Most stat categories were relatively even by both sides, but Park had the upper hand in free-throws, but bench points were heavily favoring the Eagles, 18 to two.

Angel Wiggins scored a team-high 21 points, while Emma Perry and Drobnjak also were in double-figures with 18 and 14 points, respectively.

The Pirates will be back in action on Wednesday, February 21 at 5:30pm in Marshall, Mo. to face Missouri Valley College. WATCH
