The (RV) Park University women's volleyball program swept the Clarke University Pride on Saturday to finish off their Iowa road trip in Dubuque, 25-19, 25-17, 25-19.
The Pirates move up to 18-9 and 8-5 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play, while the Pride are 12-18 and 3-13 of the same.
The Pirates had at least 13 kills in each set for the event and out hit Clarke .252 to .108.
The Pride overtook the Pirates early on in set one with a 5-1 run to gain a 7-5 lead. Park stormed back with a 4-1 run to take the lead back at 10-9, kills came in by
Izabella Ceratti and
Angelina Rodriguez while
Aly Anderson also added a service ace. Both sides exchanged their blows, but Park got the better end of the deal with a 9-2 run as the set went on to lead 20-15. With the lead firmly in hand,
Trinity Iverson slammed the final kill of the set, 25-19.
The Pirates ran away early in set two with a 9-1 lead. Three kills were recorded by
Daniela Gomez in that span alone, while Ceratti was also present with two kills of her own. Clarke down eight points, made a big 6-1 run to claw back to 14-12. The combination of Iverson and Ceratti, along with a
Irene Verdino ace, was instrumental in the 4-0 run to secure the lead 20-13. This time
Amra Kovac and
Mafalda Bras stamped the final kills in the set 25-17.
It was tied 9-9 in set three, when a 5-1 run erupted for Park. Another three kills came down from Gomez to give Park a 14-10 lead. Service aces continued to shower in, two from Patricia Carrio Ubeda and another set of two by
Angelina Rodriguez to lead the way to a 9-3 run. Clarke was able to make it interesting coming from a 10-point deficit to then bringing it within five facing match point. A Pride attack was off the mark and the Pirates took the match 3-0 after a 25-19 win in game three.
Gomez and Ceratti both picked up double-digit kill numbers, 11 and 10 respectively.
Angelina Rodriguez had a strong match with a double-double on 30 assists and 10 digs, her second double-double of the week.
Also, in double-figure digs were Verdino and
Aly Anderson with 15 and 12 digs each. Anderson bumped up the offensive stats a bit with six kills on the day, while Iverson had five kills and a team leading three blocks.
Park has their Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Tuesday against Missouri Valley College at 7pm.
