Pirates Play to Scoreless Draw Against No. 24 Pioneers

The Park University women's soccer team returned to the home confines of Julian Field for a late Tuesday afternoon matchup against the No. 24 nationally ranked MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers. Neither team was able to find the back of the net despite numerous close calls, and the match ultimately ended in a scoreless affair.

This draw moved the Pirates to 5-7-2 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play. On the other hand, the Pioneers now stand at 11-3-2 on the year and sit at 5-3-2 in Heart Conference action. With only two games to go in the regular season, Park is currently sixth place in the conference standings and would be in the conference tournament if the season ended today. However, this draw failed to gain them any ground against the Pioneers, who are currently in fifth place in the Heart Conference.

The Pioneers pelted the Pirates with a flurry of shots in the opening half, including four shots on goal that had to be saved by Frankie Williams. The Pirates themselves had a couple scoring opportunities in the first half, but often saw their shots sail wide right of their intended target.

The second half saw Park take the role of the aggressors with ten shots, two shots on goal and several other corner kick opportunities coming off blocked shots. This intensity largely settled down by '70, and Park tried to utilize a wave of substitutions to keep the pressure on the Pioneers. This effort did not result in a goal, and both sides walked off into the evening sunset with ninety minutes of scoreless action.

The only yellow card of the match was given to Lilja Lidstrom, and Park totaled six fouls compared to seven from the Pioneers.

Park next goes on the road to face the Mount Mercy Mustangs on Saturday, October 26 and then will face the Baker Wildcats in a crucial game for Heart Conference seeding. Baker currently sits at ninth place in the conference at 2-6-1 in Heart Conference action.  WATCH HERE
