The Park Esports League of Legends program had quite the season finale at the 2024 Heart Esports League of Legends Conference Championship Tournament, coming in 2
nd place in a fierce double-elimination event.
The Pirates have qualified for both years in the conference tournament and for the second straight year have appeared in the finals.
The Pirates were the 2023 Heart Tournament Champions as the No. 4 seed. This year's squad was headed up by the former 2023 Heart League of Legends Player of the Year
Zackery Fritz. Fritz also was this season's opening Heart Player of the Week recipient. The squad was rounded off by Luka Hundt, Jovan-Milan Tadic, Filip Andonovski, and Pedro Santana.
Fritz plays as an ADC, Hunt (MrBundt) plays Top, Tadic (himj) is the Jungle, Andonovski (Chofi10) is the Mid, and Santana (I am Happy) plays the Support role.
This year the Pirates bumped up to the No. 3 seed and had three matches on the day to reach the finals.
Their day started with No. 2 Culver-Stockton College, who Park was able to sweep 2-0 in a best of three series.
From there, the Pirates had to go through No. 1 Grand View University who was a perfect 6-0 in the regular season. This was no easy task and Grand View earned the 2-0 sweep.
Facing elimination in the play-in game to the tournament grand finals, the Pirates had a grudge match with No. 2 Culver-Stockton again, and again this ended in a Park 2-0 sweep.
Grand View had a couple of advantages with a break in between games and without a loss in the tournament, the Pirates would have to defeat the Vikings twice in a row to take the conference crown.
Grand View, who was upset in 2023 by the Pirates, had different intentions this time around and secured their first Heart Conference Tournament Title with a 2-0 sweep.
