The Park University women's soccer program had a tough, road test on Saturday against No. 20 Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo.
Park moves to 5-7-1 on the year with a 3-5 Heart of America Athletic Conference record, while the Vikings move to 11-3-1 with an untouched 8-0-1 conference record. With three more regular season games still to play, the Pirates are slated at No. 6 currently in the conference playoff picture with games against No. 24 MidAmerica Nazarene University, Mount Mercy University, and Baker University still to be played.
It was scoreless through the first 16 minutes of play, but
Delaney Duke already was under some duress with two saves within the first seven minutes.
After an own goal by Park at 16:44, the Vikings extended the lead to 2-nil with a goal by Madi Hudson at the 18:49 mark, assisted by Carla Carmona and Ashley Arribas.
There were eight shots in the first half by Missouri Valley and only two by the Pirates.
The Vikings continued the attack in the 25th minute as Arribas tacked on a goal, followed by Judit Ferre's goal at the 37
th minute to end the half, 4-nil. Emma Markert was credited with Ferre's goal.
Park doubled their chances in the second half with four shots and ended the game with three shots on goal, including two in the second half. Meanwhile, the Vikings had six shots in the second half with two on goal.
One of those shots in the frame for the Vikings, caught the back of the net at 68:08 to wrap up the scoring, 5-nil.
Park and No. 20 MidAmerica Nazarene will face off at Julian Field on Tuesday, October 22 at 4pm for a Cancer Awareness game.
