The Park University indoor track & field program were in Pittsburg, Kan. on Saturday for the NAIA/JUCO Challenge hosted by Pittsburg State University.
Park tied for 9
th place on the women's side out of 22 teams and 12
th out of 19 on the men's side.
Kennise Anderson had an outstanding mark in the weight throw at 15.10m for 2
nd place. She took 12
th in the shot put as well with a mark of 10.39, while her teammate
Naiyah Landrum took 7
th in both the weight throw and the shot put with marks of 13.92m and 11.03m, respectively.
Hope Klamm and
Shanai Sweeting both were at the top of the standings in the 60m hurdles, as hope took 4
th place in a time of 9.57 and Sweeting took 7
th in 9.72.
Mya Charles was in the top 20 in the 60m dash in 15
th and was just over eight seconds at 8.04. Her teammate
Hannah Mand finished just behind in 20
th in a time of 8.15.
The women's 4x400m relay team took third in a time of 4:13.59. That performance transitions well into the men's relay teams, who also did excellent in Pittsburg.
The men's 4x400m team took 4
th in a time of 3:23.36. The Pirates took it up a notch in the 4x800m relay with a blazing time of 7:57.14 for 2
nd place. Last year's 4x800m relay team for Park went all the way to Brookings, S.D. for the 2023 NAIA Indoor National Championship.
The intermediate distance and distance events proved to be strength for the Pirates with three top 10 performances from
Ethan Willmann in the 800m,
Manuel Reyes in the one mile run, and
Lukas Mehl in the 3,000m. Willmann took 10
th in a time of 2:01.31 and Mehl followed suit in 10
th with a time of 8:56.54. Reyes gave great effort in the one mile run in 7
th place, clocking a 4:25.45.
IN the 400m,
Chase Housh and
Ahmad Evans led the pack for Park in 14
th and 15
th, respectively. Housh posted a 50.78 and Evans was right behind at 51.38.

The Pirates will be in Maryville, Mo. for the Bearcat Invite on Friday and Saturday, February 2 and 3 in their next meet.
