The Park University men's soccer program faced their third straight conference opponent that is either ranked or receiving votes. Tuesday (RV) Grand View University came to Julian Field and the match ended in a draw, 2-2.
Grand View is sitting at 5-3-1 and 0-2-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while the Pirates are still holding their ground in the Heart at 0-1-2 and a 2-2-2 season record.
The Vikings had the lone goal in the first half off of Jaren Obia's goal at 19:29. The assist came from Rune Petersen.
Grand View had 10 shots opposed to four by Park in half one. Things would change a bit in half two though as 13 shots were taken by the Pirates and nine by the Vikings.
Julian Campos scored the Pirates' first goal at 54:16 with the assist coming from senior defender
Jack Austin.
In the Heart it is guaranteed to be a battle and these two teams lived up to that, as Grand View took the lead at 62:32 with an unassisted goal from Lucas Gutierrez.
It came down to the wire, but the Pirates were able to break through one last time in the 89
th minute as
Wayde Roman was able to tie the game off the pass from
Alfonso Vigna.
In all there were two more shots on goal by the Vikings.
Julian Campos and
Wayde Roman did the bulk of the shots for Park with five and six, respectively. Campos had three shots on goal, while two of Roman's were on target.
Mount Mercy University will be the next Heart matchup for Park, coming on Homecoming on Saturday, September 30 at 2;30pm.
