The Park University men's soccer program came up short against the Mustangs of Mount Mercy University on Saturday of Park's Homecoming. When the final horn sounded, Mount Mercy was the victor 2-nil.
The Pirates are now 2-3-2 on the season with an 0-2-2 record in Heart play. Mount Mercy has an impressive 5-1-3 record in 2023 and are doing well in the Heart at 2-1-1.
It was a blitz by the Mustangs in the first half at the 29 minute mark, as they scored two goals in under two minutes. The first goal was scored off of a penalty kick by Ivano Carrieri set up by a foul coming inside the box.
The second goal came in the 30
th minute by Keita Karasawa who found an opening to the right of the far post for an open shot on goal.
The Pirates had several great opportunities in the first and second halves with six shots on goal. The Pirates had nine shots in the second half as well with 14 on the game compared to the 12 for the Mustangs.
Elias Eichhorn earned six saves on the match for the Pirates, while Mount Mercy's Alejandro Cuende had five saves.
Park will travel to Lamoni, Iowa to take on Graceland University at 7:30pm on Wednesday, October 4. Â
