The Park University men's soccer program traveled to a dangerous opponent within the Heart of America Athletic Conference and No. 7 nationally ranked foe, MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. on Tuesday, ending in a scoreless draw.
Park stays .500 on the year at 2-2-1 and 0-1-1 Heart play, while the Pioneers are undefeated through eight games at 5-0-3 and 1-0-1 in conference play.
The Pirates entered the contest with 11 goals on the year, while the Pioneers had 17 before today. MidAmerica Nazarene's Jony Munoz recently came off of a Heart Offensive Player of the Week award following a four goal two assist week.
Needless to say, the Pioneers were effectively bottled up by the Pirates defense and plugged up any scoring opportunities.
There were four saves by Park's
Elias Eichhorn and five by MidAmerica Nazarene's Tobias Stirl.
When looking at the shot column, Park got two more shots off in the first half, six to four, while both teams were even at seven shots in the second half.
Julian Campos for Park has been called upon frequently offensively and he led Park with three shots today.
Park had five corner kicks as well compared to seven for the Pioneers.
The shutout for Park's defense is an encouraging sign, coming against an NAIA Top 10 ranked team.
This will be a good lead into Park's next Heart game at Julian Field on Saturday, September 23 at 3:30pm against No. 18 Grand View University.
