Game Recap: Softball |

Pirates Cap Off Their Final Homes Games with Sweep Over Peru State

Park University's softball program hosted Peru State College at the Park Softball Complex and closed out their last home games with two wins over the Bobcats on Thursday, 9-1 and 9-2.

Park hovers around .500 in both regular season and Heart of America Athletic Conference records at 20-21 and 8-10, respectively. The Bobcats fall in a pair of games and now stand at 7-35 and 4-20 of the same.

GAME 1 BOX SCORE | 9-1

The Pirates only needed five innings to spread the Bobcats in game one, scoring in the last four innings to get to the magic number.

Adrianna Solary was in the circle for Park and tossed a complete game on five hits, no earned runs, and one strikeout. It was her eighth complete game of the season and her 35th of her career.

Halle Magee and Emma James each had two hits in the contest. Interestingly enough nine runs came in for Park on only six hits. Three Bobcat errors hurt them in the field that allowed six unearned runs and the Pirates put on a baserunning clinic with three stolen bases by Magee, Ashley Kurima, and Lexie Schoreder.

Park had back-to-back three run innings in the fourth and fifth to seal the game. Magee had an RBI single in the fourth and Shelby Sanders laced a double to bring in the next two runs.

In the fifth, a mixture of an errant throw and a passed ball brought in James and Paige McPheeters, while the game ended on a ball to the shortstop and Lexie Schroeder slid in under the tag at the plate for the game winning run.

GAME 2 BOX SCORE | 9-2

Park scored the same amount of runs in game two and similar woes in the field for the Bobcats allowed seven unearned runs to score.

Abbie Farmer started for the Pirates and pitched two innings, allowing only one hit, no earned runs, and struck out one batter.

Lauren Fiene came in for a relief appearance and earned her ninth win of the year, since Farmer did not go at least four innings in a seven inning game to be eligible for a win.

Fiene allowed one earned run in the fifth, but had four shutout innings besides that. She recorded four strikeouts and only allowed two hits. No walks were issued by the Pirates staff the entire series.

Park more than doubled their hits from game one and stacked up 14 in game two. Day had three of those hits to lead her squad, while Park's six RBI's were driven in by six different Pirates, including Schroeder, Brooke Conner, Emma James, Dani Klein, Sanders, and Day.

Three extra base-hits were crushed by Sanders, Conner, and a triple was sent out to right-center by Magee.

The Pirates scored in three straight innings from the second through the fourth, but then had their biggest inning of the day in the bottom of the sixth.

Klein hit an infield single in the inning, but an errant throw allowed her two move to third and gave the green light for Day and Sanders to come around to score. James then would reach on a throwing error by the short stop to score Klein, and finally James scored on a passed ball.

Saturday, the Pirates have their final games of the season on the road in Marshall, Mo. against Missouri Valley College at 1pm. Watch the live-action here.
