Park University's softball program had a pair of games at the Park Softball Complex on Sunday against the No. 17 nationally ranked Eagles of Central Methodist University. The Eagles looked the part and moved through Park with the sweep, 8-0 and 9-3.
Park now comes in at 18-21 and 7-15 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while the Eagles are 30-8 and 17-3 in conference play.
GAME 1 BOX SCORE | 8-0
It was a hard pill to swallow in game one against Central Methodist as four runs poured in by the time the top of the first was done. The Eagles earned their four runs on four hits.
Another three runs came in during the top of the third and then one last run in the top of the seventh.
Emma James was the only Pirate to record a hit in the game, which she did in the bottom of the third and bottom of the seventh.
Lauren Fiene started the game on the mound went 2.1 innings before getting relieved by
Dakota Rau. Rau pitched effectively for 4.2 innings and did not allow an earned run on four hits.
There was no coming back against the Eagles in game one and the game finished 8-0.
GAME 2 BOX SCORE | 9-3
The Pirates experienced much of the same difficulty with the Eagles' pitcher in game two as Park was shutout through six innings.
One run came in against
Adrianna Solary in the top of the third, but the big inning came in the fourth when six runs came in on five hits.
Solary started the fourth inning, but the ball was turned over to
Nia Muniz, who finished the rest of the game with four innings pitched. Muniz to shutout innings before allowing two runs in the top of the seventh. Both Solary and Muniz had two strikeouts against the Eagles' lineup.
Not unlike yesterday's series with Benedictine, the Pirates scored all the runs of both series in the bottom of the seventh.
Trailing 9-0, the Pirates had six hits entering the seventh.
Lexie Schroeder hit a triple to right center for Park's first extra base-hit of the day. A ball hit to first base allowed Schroeder to get into home, beating the throw to the plate.
Halle Magee singled up the middle to make it first and second and the next sequence moved up to third and second on the passed ball.
Shelby Sanders was able to get an RBI on a ground out to short, but then Dani Klein banged a triple to right center to complete the three-run inning.
Central Methodist closed out the game the next batter for the 9-3 game and series victory.
Magee and Klein both stood out as the only Pirates to each go three-for-four today.
Park's final home series will be on Friday, April 28 in a doubleheader against Peru State College at 1pm.
