Third Quarter Boost Puts Baker on Top of Park, 62-49

Park's season record sits at 4-18 and 2-15 in the Heart after tonight, while the Wildcats are now a game under .500 for the season and an average 6-10 in conference play.

A great game was brewing in Baldwin, as Park and Baker were tightly contested through the first half. Park only trailed by two points at the end of the first quarter, 14-12.

In the second quarter, the Pirates took the Wildcats by storm with a 12-1 scoring run to begin the second quarter. It all got started by a Taylor Shelby jumper to tie the game at 14-all, but Shelby was only getting started with nine of Park's 12 points in that near four minute stretch .

Park shot excellent percentages in the second quarter, 40-percent from the field and beyond the arc, and were perfect from the free-throw line.

The nine-point lead of 24-15 was in jeopardy with a 17-0 run by Baker, which led to the 32-30 halftime score.

Baker struck first in the third quarter, but Tilda Mauritzson's three-pointer and Kiersten Robbins' two made free-throws brought the game within a point, 36-35.

This would be the closest the game would be the rest of the game though, as Baker went for another 18-point third quarter, while Park was held to its lowest point total of the game with seven.

Baker grew their largest lead to 14 with only 4:09 remaining in the game, before defeating the Pirates 62-49.

Despite capitalizing on quality shots in the second quarter, Park's shooting on the game was not as prosperous. Not much would drop in the third quarter, which put Park at 25.9-percent from the field, 21.1-percent from deep, and 15-of-24 from the strike.

11 of 14 of Shelby's points were scored in the second quarter and she led all Park players with 14 points scored.

Makayla Artis emerged with 10 points and five rebounds. Park's other post player, Mauritzson had a great showing as well with eight points and six rebounds.

Putting up an identical scoresheet as Mauritzson was Donetria Mcgee who finished with eight points and six rebounds.

The Pirates look forward to Senior Day on Saturday, February 4 at 2pm against Graceland University. Our class of 2023 seniors will be honored prior to the 2pm tip-off.  Watch the live-action here.
