The Park University indoor track & field program was in Maryville, Mo. for the start of the 2023-24 season on Saturday, competing in the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic.
Ahmad Evans had a good start to the season with two top 10 finishes in the 400m dash and the long jump. He ran the 400m in a time of 50.30 for 3
rd place and then came back in 6
th with a 6.31m mark in the long jump.
Thore Wegner closed in on a top 10 finish in 4
th in the mile in a time of 4:25.60. Wegner also joined Tom Kuehnel with a pair of top 10 finishes in the 800m. Wegner took 7
th in the 800m in a time of 2:00.69 and Kuehnel finished a few seconds after at 2:03.02 for 10
th place.
Manuel Reyes and
Benjamin Preston both started off the year well in the 600m run with 8
th and 10
th, respectively. Reyes crossed the finish at 1:17.78, while Preston finished at 1:19.88.
On the women's side, Destiny Pearson stood out in her first race with Pirates track with 3
rd place in the 800m with a time of 2:34.34.
McKenzie Carty had a good showing with a 6
th place finish in the 3,000m run with a time of 13:13.21.
Shanai Sweeting finished the 60m Hurdles in a time of 9.63 for 9
th.
