Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

The Pirates Pour it on in the Second Half to Defeat Graceland, 6-1

The Park University women's soccer program had a jaw-dropping turnaround against Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa on Wednesday, scoring six goals in the second half to beat the Yellowjackets 6-1.

Park is over the .500 mark in Heart of America Athletic Conference play at 3-2 and are at a strong 6-2-1 overall. The Yellowjackets are now 2-8-2 and 0-4-1 in the Heart.

Graceland was able to take a 1-nil lead in the first half on Hannah Marshall's goal from Emma Hellems at 31:15. The shots were relatively even in the first half at five to four favoring Park.

You can't count your chickens before they hatch though, as the Pirates tapped into a new level in half two. The shots for Park drastically changed to 22 compared to only two for Graceland in the second half.

At 51:44, Patrycia Kozak tied it up at one goal apiece off of Monique Fair's assist. She came right back 10 minutes later at 61:36 for the eventual game winning-goal, her seventh goal of the season. She had 10 shots in the game, which is also a new season-high for her.

Cecilie Esbak Pedersen was able to pick up her third goal of the year at 72:50.

Just when you thought things were wrapping up in the game, the Pirates struck again like lightning with three more goals from 77:11 to 88:26. At 77:11 an own goal by the Yellowjackets increased the lead to 4-1, but then Brock Allen came through with a goal nearly 30 seconds later.

Finally, Peyton Ayers got in on the scoring frenzy with an unassisted goal of her own at 88:26.

With a final of 6-1, this match brings back familiar feelings against Stephens College in 2019 when Park also scored six goals in one half.

This also marks Park's largest margin of victory against a conference opponent since joining the Heart in 2020.

Culver-Stockton awaits the Pirates in Canton, Mo. on Saturday, October 7 at 5pm. WATCH HERE
