The Park University men's soccer program had a bounce back win in the Heart of America Athletic Conference against Graceland University on Wednesday in Lamoni, Iowa, putting down the home team 2-1.
Park is now in the win column in the Heart at 1-2-2 and are back to .500 on the year at 3-3-2. The Yellowjackets on the other hand are 3-7-1 and 1-4 in conference play.
It was a balanced attack from Park with three shots coming from Wade Roman, three from
Filip Andonovski, and two from
Francesco Esteban. For the match, things were relatively even for both sides as Park had 13 shots with seven on goal, while the Yellowjackets were 10 and seven of the same.
It was a quiet first half until the scoring abruptly started just minutes before halftime. Joao Kawaskaki broke the silence with a goal at 42:44, but then the Yellowjackets immediately answered at 43:02 from Lucas Porter.
It would be a tie game up until the 86
th minute on a play that began with a missed header by a Graceland defender down the near sideline. Esteban would take advantage and with numbers at his side he got a good shot off on goal. The shot would be saved but rebounded off the keeper by Roman for the finishing blow to Graceland for the 2-1 lead.
Roman would earn the game winner, his fourth game winning goal of his career.
Elias Eichhorn did what he could to keep things close with the Pirate defense and had six saves, while Graceland had four from Miguel Roces.
The Pirates will look to keep the wind in their sails in their next road contest against Culver-Stockton College on Saturday, October 7 at 7:30pm in Canton, Mo. Â
