Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Park Storms the Statesmen in the Second Half For Senior Day Win, 5-1

The Park University women's soccer program had a rainy senior day at Julian Field on Saturday against William Penn University. The second half was a big shift in the game as Park rallied for a 5-1 win.

At 9-5-1 through the regular season and 6-5 in the Heart, the Pirates have locked themselves into the 2023 Heart Women's Soccer Conference Tournament, Presented by WinWon Technologies. William Penn finish their season at 4-11-1 and 1-9-1 in the Heart.

The Pirates gained entry to their first Heart tournament since joining the conference in 2020. The Pirates are also one win shy from a 10 win season, last happening in 2019 at 10-7.

The weather affected both teams with a lightning delay just over 10 minutes into the contest.

Once both teams came back on the pitch, the Statesmen were able to make good use out of their chances with the game's first goal at 39:31 from Lilly Cote and an assist from Abi Moers.

Both teams went to the half with a 1-0 lead for William Penn. The first half shots heavily favored the Statesmen 13 to four.

It was a complete turnaround in the second half with five goals rolling in for Park. The Pirates also tipped the scales with 20 shots to three, favoring Park.

The scoring was something special to witness and a great way to send out our seven seniors, Felicitas Mueller, Mariana Figueroa, Makenzie Denham, Carly Dwyer, Mikayla Knipp, Mary Delgado, and Kendra Bross.

Patrycia Kozak was led into the box by a pass from Adrianna Andretti, and Kozak fired her 10th goal of the season. She would not be done on the day as she earned the hat trick with goals in the 70th minute and 77th minute.

After Kozak's second goal, three more goals rained in for Park within two minutes, including from Brock Allen at 70:29 and Piper Ziegler at 71:35 with an assist coming from senior Mikayla Knipp. For Ziegler, this is her first goal of her freshman season, while Allen now has two goals in her Pirate season debut.

Mueller and the backline for Park kept her team in it with six saves and remains the all-time leader in saves with 312 career saves.

No. 5 Park will return to Atchison, Kan. to play No. 4 Benedictine College in the Heart Conference Tournament on Saturday, November 4. WATCH HERE
