The Park University women's soccer program hosted had the rare situation of being the home team at their opponents field tonight, traveling to No. 24 Benedictine College on Wednesday in Atchison, Kan., but were met by relentless goal scoring by the Ravens, 6-Nil.
The game was originally set as a home game for Park at Julian Field, but the weather forced the Pirates to move the game to Legends Field on the Campus of Benedictine College.
Benedictine is no slouch in the Heart or in national rankings for that matter and move to 11-2-4 with a 6-1-3 Heart of America Athletic Conference record. The Pirates are now 8-5-1 and 5-5-0 in conference play.
The Ravens had 20 shots to Park's 13 for the game but the Ravens were able to capitalize with 12 shots on goal to Park's two of the same. Benedictine stayed on the offensive throughout the contest with an even 10 shots each half.
The Ravens scored in a hurry with three goals in the first 16 minutes of play. First Christine Znidarsic broke the game open at the 9 minute mark and then again by Emily Shepherd at 10:53. Riley Degner then scored at 15:41 off the assist from Sam Mausbach.
It wouldn't be for another 16 minutes that Benedictine would score again with Hannah Phillips' assist off a corner kick to Rachel Beffa to take both teams to halftime, 4-0.
Both teams were relatively even on corner kicks, seven to six in favor of the Ravens. The Pirates were unable though to break through, as two more goals by Phillips and Brook Hatzmann closed out the match, 6-Nil.
The Pirates move on to senior day on Saturday, October 28 at Julian Field at noon against William Penn University.
