Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Last Minute Goal Puts Park on Top of Clarke, 2-1

The Park University women's soccer program had a big matchup with Clarke University on Saturday afternoon in Dubuque, Iowa and the Pirates triumphed over Clarke in the final minutes, 2-1.

Park's record climbs to 8-3-1 and 5-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Five wins in the Heart is Park's most since joining the Heart, surpassing the four they had last year. The Pride came into the matchup in 4th place in the Heart but now have been jumped by the Pirates. The Pride falls to 9-3-3 on the year and 4-3-1 in the Heart.

Patrycia Kozak scored the game's first goal in the 20th minute. She got into the some open space after an excellent touch and Kozak has been lethal in the open field this season with her 9th goal of the season. She is now tied for 5th among the top goal scorers in the in the Heart.

Nine minutes later the Pride got on the board by Jamie Albertson to tie the game at 1-1.

The Pirates were limited to only five shots by the Pride, while Clarke had nine and eight shots in each half.

Felicitas Mueller had crucial plays with seven saves on the match.

It wouldn't be until the 88th minute when Cecilie Esbak Pedersen would break free from the defense. Like Kozak, Pedersen found an opening straight down the middle of the box. She was able to beat the Clarke goalie on a sliding goal for the 2-1 win.

The Pirates only had four shots on goal for the match but made them count with two goals to show for their efforts.

This marks Park's first win in only four meetings all-time against the Pride, all within Heart conference play.

The Pirates will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 21 as the Pirates matchup with No. 4 Central Methodist University at 12pm on Julian Field. WATCH HERE
