The Park University men's soccer program toughed out a road win in Baldwin City, Kan. on Wednesday night, snatching a win from the Wildcats of Baker University 2-1.
The Pirates are trending upward with a 2-0-1 record in their last three games. They bump up to 4-3-3 on the season and 2-2-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while the Wildcats have a 7-4-3 overall record and a 3-3-1 conference record.
The Pirates are now 4-0 against the Wildcats in the last four games played since joining the Heart in 2020.
The scoring started nearly immediately as Baker's Hunter French got his team on the board at 5:05 off the pass from Tony Salas.
Julian Campos from Park found the net for the fourth time this season to tie the game at 1-1 in the 18
th minute. Two Pirates,
Wayde Roman and
Joao Kawasaki were in on the assist to Campos.
The Pirates had eight shots in the first half compared to Baker's seven. Things simmered down in the second half for both teams as the Wildcats only had five shots, while Park sprayed three.
Coming out from halftime, the Pirates stunned Baker with an unassisted goal from
Filip Andonovski with under three minutes elapsed. For Andonovski, this is his second goal of the season and now has four goals for his career.
The Pirates made the most of their second half goal as both teams were shutout for the remaining time on the clock.
Elias Eichhorn recorded three saves on the evening as his defensemen gave him plenty of protection in half two.
Eight different Pirates got shots off tonight, but
Nathaniel Fields led his team with three shots.
The Pirates will travel to Dubuque, Iowa for their next matchup with Clarke University at 5:30pm on Saturday, October 14.
