The Park University women's soccer program had a fantastic showing on Homecoming Weekend against Mount Mercy University with a 4-nil win.
Park is now 5-2-1 on the year with a 2-2 conference record. This now marks the fourth straight win for the Pirates over Mount Mercy, as the series favors Park 4-0. The Mustangs are now 2-5-2 and 0-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
The Pirates were able to put pressure on the Mustangs early in the game as
Patrycia Kozak was able to get just enough of the ball off the foot of the Mustang's goalie Grace Byers to deflect the ball back for a goal. The ball would have just enough on it to cross the line of the posts for a 1-0 Park lead.
For Kozak, she leads the Pirates with five goals scored on the season.
Seven minutes later at the 18 minute mark,
Lotta Paetzold was able to score her second goal of the season to give the Pirates extra insurance going into the second half.
In half two, the Pirate defense only allowed one shot, eight total for the game. The Pirates on the other hand, had 20 shots with seven on goal.
Mueller was well protected by her defense and only needed to provide one save in the match, but this would be her 10
th career shutout as a Pirate.
Makenzie Denham had an excellent second half and a game to remember for the senior, who scored the first two goals of her career. Credit on the assist given to Cecilie Esbak on the first goal in the 67
th minute and Denham was assisted by Kozak in the 83
rd minute.
Graceland University awaits Park in Lamoni, Iowa on Wednesday, October 4 at 5pm for the start of a four-game road trip.
