The Park University baseball program was in Kansas City, Kan. at Homefield Complex for a doubleheader with Culver-Stockton College on March 7. The Pirates edged the Wildcats in a pair of close games, 9-7 and 5-4 in extra innings.
The action got started with a single up the middle by
Edward Gonzalez two score a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
Jean Paul Ramos got the start on the mound and went 3.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts.
Culver-Stockton tied it in the 4th inning, but Dian Mediina put Park back on top with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, 3-2.
The fifth inning would be an important one for Park, as
Wiljerry Santiago extended the lead with an RBI single.
Edward Gonzalez laid into one and sent a three-run home run over the fence for a 7-3 lead.
Five runs on four hits, including a two-run home run tied things up in the 7th, but another good answer by Gonzalez in the bottom of the 7th gave Park the walk-off two-run home run, 9-7.
In game, two it had a similar feel, the Pirates were cruising off of six shutout innings by
Fabian Morales, who struck out nine Wildcats. Park Was up 4-0 and again there were home runs by Gonzalez and Medina, both in the 6th inning.
A two-run home run by the Wildcats in the top of the 7th gave life to the visitors and they were able to tie it up yet again in the 7th, 4-4.
The game would go to the 9th inning, as Jan Marrero scored the walk-off run on a passed ball, 5-4.
