The Park University women's soccer program closed out non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Avila University on Julian Field.
The Pirates came out in full force against the Eagles, improving to 2-1 in 2025, while Avila dropped to 1-2.
The Pirates had their most goals scored in a game since 2019. That year the Pirates defeated Lyon 7-nil and also had a couple of eight goal games, including 8-nil against Central Baptist.
There would be four goals for Park in the first half and
Frankie Williams had a first half cleansheet with four saves to keep the Pirates out front.
Gina Tassotti earned her first goal at Park, unassisted in the 13th minute. The sophomore forward got Park on the board first and joined us for her first Pirate Post-Game as well.
Park, 30 seconds later, went the length of the field in one pass from
Willoughby Lam and the senior striker,
Patrycia Kozak finished it off with the game's second goal.
Lizeth Suarez got in on the scoring action in the 33rd minute, unassisted, and
Sophia Pope got her first goal as a Pirate as well in the 41st minute. Pope's goal was made possible by the cross of
Megan Everhart to head into halftime, 4-nil.
The second half started off with a bang, as
Maddy Farris found the back of the net for the game's fifth goal at the 47:42 mark. This time Tassotti and Kozak both delivered balls that led to the scoring opportunity.
Fast forward to the 67th and 83rd minute,
Emma Le, the second year transfer from Johnson County Community College delivered two goals to put Park way over the top.
Kylee Smith earns her first career assist at Park as well.Â
Avila was able to salvage two goals in the second half in the 81st and 84th minutes. Around this same time in teh 83rd minute, Sophia Morales was given two cautions to equal an ejection and the Pirates played with 10 the remainder of the game.
Park was overwhelming for Avila with 25 shot attempts on the day, including 20 in the first half. Meanwhile, Avila showed some promise with four first half shots on goal and nine shots in the second half for 13 total.
Credit to Avila's Shae Sweeney with six saves, all in the first half, while
Delaney Duke had four saves in the second half to finish out the game.
Corner kicks were about even, but Park was favored in the first half with six and Avila came around with five in the second half of play.
The Pirates will start Heart of America Athletic Conference play on Saturday against Clarke University at noon at Julian Field.
