The Park University men's soccer program had a picture perfect game in all phases at Julian on Wednesday, defeating their final non-conference opponent Avila University, 7-nil.
The Pirates went undefeated against non-conference opponents at 3-0-1, while Avila now drops to 1-1 in the early goings of 2025.Â
There were seven different goal scorers in the game, which shows a lot for how balanced the attack is of the Pirates squad. 20 goals through four games and two shutout victories is a quality start for the team as they ramp up to Heart of America Athletic Conference play.Â
There was no score through the first 20 minutes, but that did not last much longer, as
Julian Campos sparked the Pirates offense in the 22nd minute. A good interception off of a pass from the Avila goalkeeper, put Campos in a great position to capitalize for the game's first goal, his first on the season. He was up top for the matches' Pirate Post-Game.
A foul inside the box by the Eagles was costly, as
Marcos Fernandes executed for the game's second goal at the 35 minute mark.Â
As the first half nearly was up, Smauele Pintossi was gifted a beautiful chip pass over the back line of the Eagles from
Brian Garcia and Pintossi splitting the defense came through for Park's third goal, 3-nil.
At the half, there were no shots on goal for Avila and only two shots for the Eagles. The Pirates sent in 15 shots in the first half with five on goal. Avila was able to prevent four goals in the game with two saves per half.Â
The Pirates also had an even four corner kicks per half, while the Eagles managed one per half.
Park's leading scorer this season
Pedro Beserra tacked on a sixth goal for the season in the 69th minute to make it 4-nil.
Another freshman at Park
Angeluz Martins earned his first goal of his collegiate career in the 71st minute with an assist coming from a fellow freshman in Beserra.
Before the final horn rang,
Francisco Reyes flew in with a header off of a
Raimundo Palma cross in the 83rd, followed by
Alex Rian Imbriani in the 89th minute off of an assist from
Maddix Redman.
Tomas Quintana and
Luka Andonovski were both sitting on cautions in the game.
Benjamin Nicolas closed out the game between the posts for the last 27 minutes and earned two saves.
Felipe Ramos, who moves to 3-0-1, brought in one save on the night.
Park will start the heavily anticipated conference portion of their season on Saturday, as Park hosts Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent No. 20 Clarke University on Julian Field at 2:30pm.
