The (RV) Park University women's volleyball program celebrated Park's 150th Anniversary Homecoming right with a 3-1 win over Graceland on Friday in Breckon Sports Center, 25-9, 25-11, 23-25, 25-9.
Park jumps to 7-5 on the season with a 3-2 Heart of America Athletic Conference record, wihle the Yellowjackets drop to 4-14 and 0-7 in conference play.
The Pirates were consistent with over 10 kills per set and finished the match with 12 kills in sets three and four. Overall Park hit .221, while Graceland was at .128.
A 6-0 run put fuel to the fire in set one, propelling Park to a 13-4 lead. Three different Pirates had kills in that stretch, including
Visnja Canak,
Silvia Albani, and
Indi Zetic. The Pirates wasted no time in set one and quickly got onto set two with a 25-9 win. Set two was much of the same, despite Graceland tying the set at 7-7, teh Pirates 6-2 run that gave them the separation they needed. The Yellowjackets called timeout, but another scoring spree of eight unanswered points again made set two one-sided, 25-11.
In set three, the Yellowjackets played Park tough and rebounded after a 4-0 Park run to tie it at 11-11. This time it would Graceland getting the upperhand with a 4-1 run to gain a 17-15 lead. The score would be tied four more times, before Graceland got into a set point, 24-22. Zetic extended the set with a kill, but the Yellowjackets bested Park in the set 25-23.
Park left no doubt in the final set with a 6-1 run. Zetic and
Isadora Dias showed out in force with three kills between them in the opening points. Back-to-back service winners by
Luna Martins put another charge into Breckon Sports Center as the lead was extended to 10, 13-3. In the end, the Pirates would come full circle with a score that started the match in set one, 25-9, and the Pirates secured the Homecoming win in four sets.
Zetic had limited action in set three, but still reached 14 kills for the match. Dias and Canak were both powerful weapons for the Pirates with nine and seven kills.
Angelina Rodriguez and
Silvia Albani were great defensively with 15 and 13 digs, respectively. Make that a double-double for Albani as she amassed 30 assists.
Bailey Turner also played a sound defensive game with 12 digs and led the Pirates with four service aces.
Elisa Dalla Pozza formed a wall with her teammates for six blocks in the match. Dias and Zetic lent a hand from the outside with four block assists each.
Park takes on Baker University on Tuesday night at 7pm in Breckon Sports Center for their next round of Heart action.
