Fiene and Vaught Keep Owls Scoreless in Park Sweep

Park University's softball program was in Fulton, Mo. on Tuesday for their last non-conference matchup with William Woods University. Park found their strength in the circle with a pair of complete game, shutouts by Lauren Fiene and Hanna Vaught for the sweep, 3-0 and 7-0.

Park is 12-6 on the season now, while William Woods moves to 9-10.

W, 3-0 | Box Score
Park would score in the top of the first in game one, as an RBI single by Halle Magee moved into a 1-0 lead.

The Pirates four and five-hole batters would get Park to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, as Shelby Sanders singled to right field to score Caroline Riffer for the second time in the game. Chloe Gilbert followed that up with a sacrifice fly for the third run.

Park had 11 hits and one error in the field, and despite the Owls holding Park the rest of the game, Fiene limited William Woods to three hits.

Fiene left five runners stranded and struck out seven batters and advanced to a 4-2 record. For Fiene, this is her fourth complete game of the 2025 campaign and she is up to 24 in her three seasons at Park.

Riffer led Park with three hits and two stolen bases, scoring two runs, while Gracie Ramsey and Magee both had multi-hit games as well. Riffer with 36 stolen bases last year was second all-time at Park in a single season and she is nearly have way to that mark again with 15 stolen bases ahead of conference play.

W, 7-0 | Box Score
In game two, the Pirates also got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Ramsey scored on a grounder to second for Gilbert's second RBI of the day.

Vaught proved to be too much for William Woods in the circle, nearly adding a no-hitter to her complete game shutout. Vaught moves to 6-1 on the season and had five strikeouts.

The offense got to work in the fourth inning with six runs on six hits, and took advantage of one Owl error. Riffer drove in an RBI to get Park going. Magee then shot a two-RBI double to right field to make it 4-0. A triple by Sanders scored another two runs and then a sacrifice fly by Gilbert got Park to their seven run total.

Park begins Heart of America Athletic Conference play with MidAmerica Nazarene University on Friday, March 21 at 1pm at the Park Softball Complex. WATCH
