The Park University women's basketball program had their final regular season game of the 2024-25 campaign on Wednesday, February 19 in Breckon Sports Center, falling to the Vikings of Missouri Valley College, 83-57.
The Pirates have won three of their last four games to lead into the Heart of America Athletic Conference post-season, where Park has secured the No. 6 seed at 17-11 on the season and 14-10. Missouri Valley is the No. 4 seed in the tournament at 21-6 and 17-6 in the Heart.
11 turnovers in the first quarter alone for the Pirates made things difficult starting off. Missouri Valley capitalized with a 17-9 start to the game in the first quarter.
Park took care of the basketball better in the second quarter with only two turnovers, but as a whole the three-point line was not kind to the Pirates with zero threes in the first half.
Emma Perry was the only starter to score in the first quarter, as Park relied on
Marina Perdiguero with seven points in the first quarter. The offense found itself a little more with 14 points in the second quarter on seven points from Perry and five points from
Nadiyah Cooper. Still the Vikings were out to a comfortable 43-23 lead at the half.
In the second half, Cooper helped Park to 17 points in the third and fourth quarters with a total of 18 points in the game to lead the Pirates. The Vikings' would finish the game with 18 turnovers to 19 for the Pirates and both teams would have double-figure steal numbers with 10 for Park. Missouri Valley would not cough up the lead though and Park fell 83-57.
Park shot 28.6-percent from the field, while the Vikings were above 50-percent. The Vikings also sank 10 three-pointers, while the Pirates had three second half threes.
Park got to the line and knocked down their shots as a silver lining at 18-of-24, compared to a seven-of-nine night for Missouri Valley.
Missouri Valley got into transition for 16 points, while Park only had four fastbreak points.
Perry and Perdiguero were second in scoring with 14 points and had good rebound numbers with seven for Perdiguero and six for Perry.
Cooper turned it on defensively with five steals, while Perdiguero also contributed a block to the team's defensive numbers.
The 2015-16 season was the last conference post-season appearance for Park in the American Midwest Conference and this marks the first post-season appearance the Pirates have earned in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
No. 6 Park will be on the road in the quarterfinals against No. 3 Benedictine College at 7pm in Atchison, Kan.
